Here in this post I will explain some of our recent changes in the 1.1 update to Hometowns to the Fairgrounds.
First off we will start with the biggest change to the mod, the aerodynamics. After much research we found an issue regarding aerodynamics and the way rFactor measures it especially on the front end of the car. We found that the issue was causing there to be practically no aero on the front end, this resulted in very weird feeling physics as there was no front downforce. The aerodynamics have been completely reworked and the issue is resolved. This has changed alot, it causes the cars to handle better, fixes an issue with the cars being a bit too fast at alot of tracks as there is actually drag on the front end slowing the car a bit, due to more downforce the cars feel as though they have more grip.
This brings us into our next topic, tires. Due to the increases in downforce and the fact that the cars feel as though they have more grip a large amount of tracks and track specific tires had a slight amount of grip taken out. The cars are running closer lap times compared to real life and everything between braking zones, acceleration points, and racing lines are more accurate with how the real life drivers of these cars run them.
Next subject, tracks. There has been a few new tracks put in. Not much of a description on this besides you now have more tracks to race on.
Ok, now onto our last topic of updates, engine heat. As we have been going towards realism since this is a simulation we had to include on thing that will make the cars harder to race that drivers have to deal with in real life. In this type of racing cars do not run grill tape during feature races, you can sometimes do it in qualifying and heats, teams are allowed to use grill tape as there are not rules against it, but you often times you see teams remove the hood of the car because it is overheating even though they are not running any grill tape. We have dialed Hometowns to the Fairgrounds in properly with consideration to the fact that we cannot just pull in the pits and remove the hood. With that being said if you are running too high of a gear, or over driving the car too much, or sometimes just running the car hard back in traffic you may begin to overheat even without grill tape. To simulate actual strips of tape the increments on grill are 10% increments when applying and removing tape.
This is all the changes we have made with the 1.1 update. We do have piece of bad news that the K&N Pro Series is being held off for a bit as there have been some time constraints and other pressing matters on the development side of things.
